The meals are paid for with federal funds provided by the Community Eligibility Provision program, which is administered by the state Department of Education’s Division of Food and Nutrition. The intermediate school is new to the program this school year. “It gives them time to socialize with their friends and get the school day started on a positive note.” “It’s a great way for our kids to kick-start their day,” said intermediate school Principal Michael Cardamone. The meals are being provided to all students at Kiski Area Intermediate School in Allegheny Township, Kiski Area Upper Elementary School in Washington Township and Kiski Area East Primary School in Vandergrift. More than 1,000 students in three of the six schools in the Kiski Area School District will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2023-24 school year.
